I just found this site and have learned alot from reading just a few posts. I perform professionally about 100 nights a year throughout Montana as an old-fashioned One Man Band (Guitar, Harmonica, Kick-Drum and High Hat) and play a wide variety of music, mostly Honky-Tonk, Traditional Country, Blues and some older Rock. I recently have been working a 120 Bass Accordiana accordion into my act, but want to get a more traditional Zydeco/Cajun sound. I love the tone that Clifton Chenier, Boozoo Davis and others get on their Piano Accordions and want to purchase a smaller 72 or 60 Bass Piano Accordion, with pickups or microphones.
Several questions:
1. Are the Cotati accordions advertised on the accordionLab site worth a damn? I am looking at this model:
Cotati Accordion Link
I also found one on ebay, an Excalibur model with similar features.
2. How do I know if an accordion on ebay or elsewhere on the Internet will have that Zydeco tone I am looking for? Is the "Musette" tuning advertised the same tuning that the Zydeco PA players use?
3. What is the best type of system to amplify a Piano Accordion. Accordion Labs has $249.50 system,
Accordion Labs Microphone System for Accordions
and I found another system (Augustina) at:
www.accordionman.net/Augustina_ECM.html
I also found a Sennheiser external condensor mic at:
Sennheiser external Accordion microphone
I sure would appreciate any comments and advice.
Thanks,
